Suisse v. Czech Republic

Painful start of Euro 2008 for the national team. The Switzerland lost 1-0 against the Czech Republic.
The pain is also the exit due to injury of Alex Frei, shortly before half-time. Medical test later in the evening revealed a partial tear of ligaments left knee. Frei is out for the rest of the competition.

Reactions of Philippe Senderos:
"We knew it would be difficult. There are three big teams in front of us in this group, it was necessary to deliver a great match, it's what we did. It was important to play well, but dominating doesn't mean winning... We're disappointed. And we lost our captain, top scorer, it hurts.
Wednesday is already a final for us. Without putting too much pressure, we said we must save face in this Turkish team."

Friendly - Suisse v. Liechtenstein

Last friendly game before the UEFA Euro 2008. The "Nati" defeated Liechtenstein 3 - 0 in St Gallen in a crowded AFG Arena. Alexander Frei striked twice and became the best scorer in the history of Swiss selection, Johan Vonlanthen had the third goal.

As announced by Philippe Senderos earlier last week in this interview (fr) the "Nati" was looking for confidence and fine tuning its game plan in preparation for the first match against the Czech Republic on June 7.

Kuhn has lined up what should be considered the official starting team with the exception of Barnetta, out due to ankle injury (expected to return for saturday). Six changes were made during the match. Philippe Senderos was replaced after 60 minutes by Stephane Grichting.

Reactions of Philippe Senderos:
- Your first impressions after this last friendly match?
"We played in a brand new stadium, I really liked the AFG Arena, it was really beautiful. Many flags, a good atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to play again a match in St Gallen in the near future. "
- And on the game itself?
"I played an hour as a precaution before the first match of the Euro. It was the same eleven, there are automatism among us. Playing entertaining football and not conceding any goals was also important, it's good for confidence. And then there was the new milestone reached by Alex Frei. "
- In defence, what's the temperature like?
"The return of Müller is a real plus, we are complementary, he is calm and experienced. There are habits by playing together, it's good for the future."
